We completed deadwooding work on a mature Bur Oak along the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario.
The goal of the work was to remove dead branches to improve the appearance of the tree and reduce the risk of falling limbs near pedestrian and cycling areas. Trees in public spaces require regular maintenance to help keep the area safe while preserving the health and structure of the tree.
Removing dead branches from a mature Bur Oak
Dead branches can become dangerous over time, especially on large mature trees located near pathways and public areas.
For this project, the deadwooding work focused on:
- Removing hazardous dead limbs
- Improving clearance over nearby paths
- Reducing the risk of falling branches
- Maintaining the natural structure of the tree
The work was completed carefully to preserve the overall health and appearance of the Bur Oak.
Improving safety around public spaces
Trees located near walking and cycling paths need ongoing monitoring and maintenance.
Deadwood can:
- Break unexpectedly during wind or storms
- Create hazards for pedestrians and cyclists
- Affect the appearance of the tree
Removing dead branches helps improve safety while keeping mature trees healthy and visually appealing.
Result
The Bur Oak is now safer and better maintained, with hazardous deadwood removed from the canopy.
The work improved both:
- Public safety around the Rideau Canal area
- The overall appearance of the tree
