Simon-Pierre and Yannick represented Arboris at the Ontario Tree Climbing Competition, joining 42 competitors from across Ontario. It was a chance to test their skills, learn from other arborists and spend time together as a team.
Taking on Five Challenges
The competition included five events: Work Climb, Belayed Speed Climb, Speed Ascent, Throwline and Aerial Rescue.
Simon-Pierre finished 22nd overall and placed 6th in the Belayed Speed Climb. Yannick finished 37th overall. Both placed in the top 20 in Work Climb and Speed Ascent.
For Simon-Pierre, competing is also a way to encourage the crew to keep improving—and eventually beat him.
A Team Event
Arboris covered the team’s expenses, including the hotel and meals. Two other crew members came to cheer them on, along with Yannick’s parents and Simon-Pierre’s wife and daughter.
Although neither competitor reached the overall podium, there were good results to celebrate and plenty to take away from the experience.
Bringing New Skills Back to Work
The event gave our team an opportunity to learn new techniques, practise aerial rescue and exchange ideas with others in the industry.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us, and to the organizers and fellow competitors.
